Most of the techniques in Jiu Jitsu are ground-based due to the idea that control is easier to achieve on the ground as opposed to standing. Through the use of leverage and position, students will learn to overcome their opponents. Jiu Jitsu is physically and mentally demanding. However, it offers numerous benefits to those who decide to take the journey. Benefits include physical fitness and a better understanding of what you are capable of. There are also social benefits from working with groups of like-minded people as you learn and have fun as a team. Many people first learned of Jiu Jitsu from its use in MMA. Jiu Jitsu practice differs significantly from MMA as there is no punching, kicking, or slamming. Instead, we emphasize safe grappling techniques that help reduce the likelihood of injury. Despite its absence of striking, practicing Jiu Jitsu can be priceless when referring to its value in real-life self-defense and combat situations.
